The final RROTY race of the 2022 season was somewhat academic with Pat Ferris already locked in as the winner with an unassailable lead, but riders were still keen to test their form on a perfect spring afternoon, which was a welcome reprieve from the ongoing wet weather. It was also a chance to build some form ahead of the upcoming TT and Road championships to end our road season in November.
There was a welcome return to racing form Mark Haydon, who formed part of the GO trio with Jacqui King and Adam Edwards. It was the a series of paired up riders who followed on, with Jo & Clint at 5mins, Dene & Swanny at 8mins, Block pair Kirky & Hammy at 11mins, and Pat & Andy bringing up the rear at 14mins.
As riders hit the turn all the groups remained intact and working well, and although gaps were shrinking the GO trio were holding a handy lead. On the return leg Scratch achieved their mission to reel in Block at Telecom box, and then picked up Dene and Swanny on the run for home. But GO kept pacing together to have a clear lead, and it was Adam who turned on the after burners to gap his compadres and take out his first club race win – congrats Adam! Jacqui came in second, with Haydo 3rd. The last RROTY points were mopped up by Jo & Clint who just held off a rampaging scratch with seconds to spare – great handicapping!
